Ikea opened in Kristiansand late 2010 which has been long awaited by people in Kristiansand and Agder. Most people used to do day trips to Ikea in Satavanger (Sandnes) which was a bit of a pain. So the fact that Ikea built Scandinavias biggest Ikea store in Kristiansand - is fantastic.
They have a great range of food and very cheap prices and they are continually having specials on the food.
Dont expect to wait a long time once you get to checkout, because they have a very good system. You can go through checkout yourself with a computer tagging system, or staff can help you with your goods. That was the most annpying thing in Sandnes, the long queues.
There is a kids area that is open until 8pm, so you can relax while you shop if you have kids. However, this is very popular and is often full - so get in there quick.
The store is a little difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area. Unfortunately the ever frustrating Norwegian road laws about errecting signs affects Ikea. There are no signs to the store from the road! So you can (as I have) drive past it without knowing. And then it is a very long way to go back and find it. So I would suggest using a GPS. The pictures below are on the E18 from Kristiansand City Centre to Ikea. First you see the Høvåg Ø sign and turn right there. Shortly after, you will come to a round about and see the Sørlandsparken Ø sign. Follow this to the right and you will see the Ikea building.
From the city centre, it will take about 20 minutes to drive to Ikea and from the airport, about 15.
